arly life
Amanda Ava Koci was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Albanian immigrants from Albania. She has described herself as "100% Albanian" and stated that she "definitely wants to give back to the Albanian community when [she] can." At age 8, she moved with her family to Virginia. She competed in numerous singing competitions before she entered high school. At age 14, she moved with her mother to Los Angeles, in pursuit of a career in music. She found the city to be “overwhelming”. A year later, she returned to Virginia. She stated that she was grateful for the return because it allowed for “a normal childhood”. At age 17, she moved back to Los Angeles.
2013–2017: Musical beginnings
Under the stage name Ava, her song "Take Away the Pain" was published in May 2013. In July 2015, the Canadian DJ and producer duo Project 46 released a remixed version of the song. After years of having demos rejected from record producers and songwriters, she met record producer Cirkut a dinner party in LA where she sang “Happy Birthday” to him. According to Max, Cirkut “opened up a lot of doors” for her. They began to work on music together. In July 2016, she released the song "Anyone But You", one of many songs she worked on with Cirkut, on SoundCloud. The song gained traction and attracted the attention of various record labels that contacted her through email, ultimately leading her to sign a record deal.
2018–present: Breakthrough and upcoming debut studio album
In April 2018, the single "My Way" was released. Cirkut continued as her producer. It reached a peak of 38 on the Airplay 100 chart of Romania. In May 2018, "Slippin", a collaboration with Gashi, was released as a single. In June 2018 her second guest appearance was published. She featured on the song "Into Your Arms" by American rapper Witt Lowry. In July of the same year, the song "Salt" appeared on SoundCloud. In August 2018 she re-released the song "Not Your Barbie Girl" as a promotional single.
Max's third single "Sweet but Psycho" was released on August 17, 2018. The song, produced by Cirkut, became Max's breakthrough hit, reaching number one in more than 20 countries including Sweden, Finland and Norway. Max was also featured on David Guetta's album 7, on the track "Let It Be Me".
In January 2019, "Sweet but Psycho" reached the top of the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. After the song "Blood, Sweat and Tears" was announced as the follow-up single in December 2018, it ended up being cancelled. In March 2019 the song "So Am I" was released as the official follow up to "Sweet but Psycho". Her songs "Salt", "Sweet but Psycho" and "So Am I" are set to be featured on her upcoming debut studio album.
On the 4th of July, NCT 127 X Ava Max will release a colaboration digitial single called "So Am I".- Wikipedia
